
Rahul Purini
President, Crunchyroll
Rahul Purini is President of Crunchyroll, having assumed the role in May 2022 after serving as the company’s Chief Operating Officer for several years. He leads the global strategic direction of the world’s leading anime experience for fans.
During his time leading the organization, he has led Crunchyroll to surpassing 14M global subscribers. His efforts in the theatrical space have led to winning its first global rights for a theatrical distribution with Dragon Ball Super: SUPER HERO in August 2022, as well as the distribution for the award-winning director Makoto Shinkai’s film Suzume and a Golden Globe nomination. He also led the launch of anime dubs in five new languages (Italian, Castilian Spanish, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu). As a part of Crunchyroll's music endeavors, he brought anime-related music to the streaming platform.
He has also found great success in online commerce, closing the deal for the acquisition of eCommerce anime retailer Right Stuf in August 2022 and distribution deals for Crunchyroll with numerous platform partners in the US. Finally, he headed up the effort to bring the Crunchyroll Anime Awards ceremony to Tokyo, the home of anime.
Prior to the merger of Funimation and Crunchyroll, Purini spearheaded Funimation’s strategic day-to-day operations, eCommerce, production studios, content programming, and business intelligence and analytics;.
Purini joined Funimation in 2015 and led the company’s growth in both global expansion and subscription base.
Purini brings 25 years of experience utilizing emerging technologies to develop industry-changing digital solutions that drive business performance and consumer engagement.
Before joining Funimation, Purini was Vice President of Solution Delivery at Razorfish, a leading global digital agency. He was also the head of technology and operations for Dallas-based digital agency MEplusYOU (formerly imc2). Purini has been recognized with industry awards from Forrester and Forbes for his team’s work for Pizza Hut, Procter & Gamble, and GlaxoSmithKline.
In 2024, Purini was named to the Variety 500 Power List and ranked #4 on Cartoon Brew’s US Animation Power List.
Purini holds a degree in Computer Science and Engineering from Sri Venkateswara University. He is based in Dallas.
