Dancing Nation Steps Into Asia-Pacific
Sony Pictures Television and CCTV to Co-produce Dance Competition Format in China
HONG KONG (Nov. 29, 2012) - Sony Pictures Television (SPT) today announced its joint-venture production company Huaso Productions will co-produce a local version of the hit dance competition format, Dancing Nation, for CCTV in China. The deal marks the first time the SPT-owned format will be produced in Asia-Pacific. The announcement was made by Mary Chan, vice president, production, Asia-Pacific, SPT.
The light entertainment series, which will consist of 10 one-hour episodes, is slated to premiere in February on CCTV. Supported by local governments, the show will feature charity projects and people from different communities across the country.
"Dancing is a universal language that transcends all cultural barriers," said Chan. "Combining a sense of community with good will, Dancing Nation will spark audience participation and engage viewers across the entire region. The new series further illustrates formats as an excellent source of successful programming that's culturally relevant, especially in Asia-Pacific."
Dancing Nation is an uplifting dance competition that unites people nationwide in a collective effort to raise money for local charities and organizations. Men and women of all ages with diverse occupations and backgrounds join forces in a unique display of solidarity as teams perform routines and are cheered on by the cities they represent. In a movement that grips an entire country, Dancing Nation illustrates how hundreds of people can come together to dance for a worthy cause.
Elsewhere around the world, local versions of Dancing Nation have been produced in Brazil, Ecuador and Argentina.
