Sony Pictures Television Forms Joint Venture Production Company In Brazil Named Floresta

São Paulo and London - 12 July 2010 - Sony Pictures Television (SPT) continues to expand its international production business with the announcement today that it has formed a new joint venture production company in Brazil with locally-based production executive, Elisabetta Zenatti. The announcement was made by Kees Abrahams, president, international production, SPT.

Floresta is based in São Paulo and represents SPT's extensive entertainment TV formats portfolio in Brazil, covering both scripted and non-scripted programming. Through Zenatti, SPT is already working closely with several Brazilian broadcasters on some of its highly successful global formats including Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? for Radio E Televisao Record.

Commenting, Abrahams said: "The formation of Floresta demonstrates our continuing commitment to the region, our desire to bring the best programming to broadcasters in Brazil and our ability to attract the best local talent to our business. Floresta is the latest addition to our worldwide roster of thriving production companies. With Elisabetta now on board, we have a highly talented creative producer on our side and I'm delighted to welcome her back into the family."

"I'm honoured to be part of such an exciting endeavour," said Zenatti. "Floresta will allow us to develop a broad range of content through formats and our own created content that will resonate with Brazilian audiences."

Elisabetta Zenatti has spent the last 20 years in television production. She started her career as creative officer at GAT in Germany, then as an employee of SPT based in São Paulo, where she was responsible for scripted and non-scripted light entertainment programming in Latin America. In 2000, she formed a joint venture production company in Brazil with RGB, which she ran successfully for six years. She was hired as Head of Programming and Production in 2006 at the Brazilian free to air TV channel, Bandeirantes, where she was responsible for development, production, quality control and programming.

This latest investment by SPT is part of the ongoing growth strategy of the company's international production business. In October 2009, it formed Toro Productions in Spain and Italy, headed up by Marco Tombolini and Pasquale Romano. In March this year, SPT increased its stake holding in Tuvalu Media in the Netherlands. In April, through Toro Productions, it agreed a production deal with Talpa Media, enabling Toro in Italy to exclusively produce scripted and non-scripted Talpa formats. SPT has also expanded its roster of well-established producers through investments in Gogglebox in the UK and Starling in France, Teleset in Colombia and Lean-M in Russia. In the US, Embassy Row was acquired in 2008 bringing Michael Davies into the SPT family.
