Dr. Oz Makes House Calls Around The World
Series Sold In 82 Territories
LOS ANGELES, CA and LONDON, UK - February 16, 2010 Sony Pictures Television (SPT) and Harpo Productions today announced that they have concluded both print and format sales for their new hit daytime talk show, The Dr. Oz Show, in a wide range of territories outside the U.S. Since its launch in the U.S., The Dr. Oz Show has enjoyed the highest rated syndication premiere in seven years and its audience has grown by 35% there since launch. The U.S. version of the series has now been sold to broadcasters in 82 territories including Korea, Hungary, Latin America, the Middle East, New Zealand, Romania, Russia and Turkey. Additionally, the format has been licensed to MBC in the Middle East and to Rossiya in Russia. The announcement was made today by Keith Le Goy, president, international distribution, SPT, Ed Louwerse, managing director, 2waytraffic international, SPT and Sheri Salata and Erik Logan, presidents, Harpo Productions.
"Dr. Oz's broad appeal is demonstrated by the range of territories that have embraced the show," stated Le Goy. "His unique ability to develop strong connections with viewers makes The Dr. Oz Show an attractive property for our international broadcasters."
Louwerse said, "Because health and wellness are universal topics that resonate with people around the world, this format is uniquely suited to be customized in individual markets. This format gives channels the opportunity to find their own medical equivalent of Dr. Oz and through such a personality, forge a strong and trusted social link with their audiences."
"Harpo's commitment to high quality, powerful content is further evidenced in the wide appeal of The Dr. Oz Show," said Logan. "Now audiences around the globe can benefit from his life-saving information and empowering message."
Understanding that a medical show requires detailed research and visually impactful graphics, the format includes a comprehensive package of detailed medical research, graphics and scripts from the U.S. show.
In Canada, The Dr. Oz Show is the #1 daytime talk show and ranks #2 in the slot across all key demos behind The Young and the Restless/Evening News.* Week 18 of the show has continued a five week upward audience trend and the show has continued to show improved total audience and demographic numbers since launch.
The Dr. Oz Show is an entertaining, high octane, multi topic hour-long series hosted by trusted health expert, best-selling author, and world-renowned cardiac surgeon Dr. Mehmet Oz. The Dr. Oz Show is co-produced by Harpo Productions and SPT. The show is distributed in the U.S. and internationally, excluding Canada, by SPT. Canadian sales are represented by William F. Cooke Television Programs. The format is being licensed internationally by SPT's 2waytraffic and is part of the company's non-scripted light entertainment formats slate for MIPTV this year.
